The fundamental right of equality continues to be an uphill battle for women around the world.

Punishment for getting an abortion in a Western Democracy?

Depends on the Democracy…

As of 2022, Freedom, does not necessarily mean: “the freedom to choose” …anymore.

One of those battles that we assumed won decades ago in the “modern world” has re-emerged with a fury; a woman’s right to choose and access safe, legal abortions.  The Gibraltar Project was conceived in order to confront the opposition with a new kind of weapon.

As a group of female creatives we believe strongly in the power of story, and in the voice and unique perspective and circumstance of the individual. To accomplish this we have followed the stories, through a personal lens, diving into the nuances of Gibraltar’s divisive vote to legalize abortion juxtaposed against the United States’s journey to overturning Roe v. Wade and the resulting global ripple effects. We aim to spotlight the deep, hidden feelings, experiences and beliefs of the individuals while also diving into how a culture, country, and a democratic people have come to question a woman’s right to freedom of choice, thereby putting the question of equality between men and women to the vote, once again asking, are we truly FREE if we are not truly EQUAL?

Gibraltar:

Battling to decriminalize abortion

United States:

Battling to criminalize abortion

As one country seeks to expand reproductive rights, the other is on the road to preventing safe access to abortion for the women of its society. The duality is astonishing, and we bring you into this little storm, brewing in a teacup, poised to explode and leave far reaching global ramifications in it’s wake.

The Gibraltar Project is about more than a vote for legal abortion in a tiny country in the Mediterranean. And it is more than a simple “witness to history” of when the United States Supreme Court upended precedent and stripped women of their right to choose. We have sought to create a social impact, and a call to action. It is about creating an environment of empowerment where women around the world feel safe to choose their sovereignty, every single day.  And that starts by validating their lived experiences with sympathy and understanding.

Our intention with this documentary is to educate the widest possible audience about all the ins and outs of the current legislative battles raging globally whilst providing a peek into the long term ripple effects of such legislation on the lives of women.
